The Headaches of a New Facility
ISI TCU“We don’t have any tables to set up to meet students.” That was the message I received on Monday from our TCU team after I dropped off some flyers and signage. On Monday, our TCU team was organized to meet on campus to man a welcome table for new students in the brand new University Union(http://www.union.tcu.edu/). It is a brand spanking new facility designed to be a place to gather for student when they are not in class. It is a wonderful place. As is normal in any setting, during times of transition, there are opportunities for confusion. This was no exception. Many of the offices that were set up to move to the Union are a little behind and are working out of boxes and from laptop computers. There was a bit of confusion regarding our table whose purpose was to promote the ICF club (our on-campus name at TCU which stands for International Christian Fellowship) to new students. So first, we found out we were moved to the rec center, then we found out there was no table at all. It was a case of misunderstanding in a confusing time.
One thing I share with our teams all the time is that whenever things go wrong… look for God, that is where God most usually works. Such was the case here too. We recruited quite a few students to help man the booth and our staff intern, Matt our key volunteer JP were able to make some really good connections with those students and have some good conversations. I believe God made this happen for a purpose. We just don’t understand yet.
