Praying for Others in “Impossible” Situations
PrayerA dear friend is in need requiring a breakthrough. God placed it on the heart of our local ISI team to pray for them. I’ve never been part of this type of prayer effort before where we are praying for victory in a person or family’s life and yet it seemed clear that we should be involved. This is a situation where there is clear Spiritual Warfare and a need to pray deeply and consistently. It has been hard and yet I believe we are slowly seeing God work. This reminds me of the story in 2 Chronicles 20:1-29 where Jehoshaphat and the armies of Judah were faced with a huge Moabite and Ammonite force intent on their destruction. In this seemly hopeless situation, they prayed for God’s deliverance and God answered through the prophet Jahaziel,
“Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. 16 Tomorrow march down against them. They will be climbing up by the Pass of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the gorge in the Desert of Jeruel. 17 You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.’” (v. 15-17)
And God somehow caused the enemy armies to be defeated, (by fighting themselves) and Jehoshaphat and his people didn’t have to life an arm in mortal struggle just as He said.
Prayer is powerful and real as the God we pray to is powerful and real. We continue to daily pray for God’s deliverance in this the difficult situation our friends are mired in as God calls until He tells us otherwise. We know God answers prayers. He promises that. We trust He will show himself worthy to trust again in this situation that seems so dark.
